EXCELLENT!
This product is great for the hobbyist or electronic
enthusiast that wishes to explore a new world. Both fun and educational,
which adds to the benefits of this great product. When reviewing this
product we have found the staff at ECMG to be most helpful and friendly.
They made sure to introduce us to the entire process, you, as a customer
would encounter when ordering this product. We found this to be very
beneficial, because we did not get "selective treatment" we got the "norm"
and were VERY pleased with the service we experienced. I trust you will be
very pleased as well.
The drum kit includes very detailed, easy to
follow instructions. This makes it great for the beginner, to feel a sense
of achievement on one of their first projects, as anyone will be able to
follow the precise instructions laid out, using the information provided
with the kit. We have rated this for ages 8 and up, because we feel by
that age there should be the understanding needed to follow the
instructions on their own, with little or no help. You be the judge on
this with your own child.
The kit contains all of the pieces
needed, to successfully work from your computer. It is a large kit, with a
lot of little pieces (keep out of reach from small children please). The
kit contains the software to run on your pc, a gameport cable, a power
supply, microcontroller, jumper wire, capacitors, resistors, breadboard,
diodes, opto-isolator, gameport connector, crystal oscillator, piezo
sensor (drum pads),
drumsticks, and complete instructions. The instructions
come with full color photos, which make it easy to walk your way thru it
piece by piece. NOTE: The PC must have a sound card for you to reap the
benefits of this device. The sound card is not included, but comes with
most pc's.
This product will teach your students / children basic
electronic concepts and functions. These same type of projects are used at
university level, for instruction. Now you can have it within your
classroom, for younger students to experience the joys of learning these
great concepts too. So many children (boys especially but not limited to
them) have that curiosity and interest in electronics. Notice how they
always want to know how things work and tear everything apart (just wish
there weren't so many spare pieces when they put them back together ...
but ... :) ... This is inborn and if you can capture that interest and let
it grow, by introducing them to such items as this to explore and
experience, just think where they will take it from there. This brings
hands on knowledge to the classroom - letting them see, feel and do ...
instead of merely studying how electronics work in a textbook - which, if
you have read any electronics books, I am sorry - they are dull, dry and
boring most times. This way they can live it and love it!
The kit
can be taken apart and built again or use the parts in other hands on
studies. There are no special tools needed for building this and comes
with everything you need.
From upper elementary to thru high
school, I know your child / student will enjoy this kit. Another nice part
about it, is if they like the "drums" idea, but you live in small
quarters, they won't be able to have a large drum kit, but still be able
to use this ... so it is a multi purpose kit. Both fun in building, as
well as educational - and then, once completed, they will be able to have
fun using it to "jam" their way into bliss, with their favorite tunes.
(and the volume control on your computer will keep the noise level
manageable EVEN in an apartment setting ! :)
You are able to
choose your own selection of sounds for your drum kit. It will then sound
exactly as you have chosen! You can choose from the "norm" or mix and
match for your own tastes and have it as far out as you wish.

This is a great kit for dads to do with their children. That hands on kit building bonding that I see so much of happening in our home, with robotics and other electronic "boy toys" as I call them (smile) ... No, not for boys only - many girls love them, don't get me wrong .. just in our home, it is the guys that prefer this stuff UNTIL it it together - THEN the girls like to play too. Both of my daughters told me they had an interest in playing drums, once this was put together, as they wanted to play too ... and as I reminded them - this would be the closest to a drum set to ever enter our home, so to enjoy (smile).
Please have a look here at their brochure and see the many features and benefits of this great product. For all of the many parts included within this kit, we feel the price is very fair. If you were to buy each one separately you would pay either as much or more and not have the software and instructions for the finished product!
This is a great misture to your studies in math, science and engineering. Bring your child to the next level by introducing them to a new world and for a reasonable price. To take a class that would teach them what this kit will, would cost hundreds and to find a class offering such as this, without entering a university, would be tough ... but now you can teach them yourself and with little effort.
If your student wishes to go on to develop further interest in college level classes in engineering and electronics, what a great introduction to the world of microcontrollers. These are used in your daily life and are so fascinating. As their site says, this project is like the training wheels to higher level programming courses taught at college level.
